Chelsea Handler shared a personal letter she wrote about her family's dysfunction and lack of manners during a vacation. The letter, initially intended for her family, was shared widely after friends found it relatable, and Handler realized its potential to help others. She discussed how post-therapy skills influenced her approach to family communication.
“Our family is dysfunctional. And that is what families are. What we need to work on, however, is manners. There is a definite shortfall of manners on this trip and I loved this trip feeling embarrassing and taken advantage of.”
“It was post-therapy, so I definitely had some skills that I hadn't had before when writing that letter.”
“And because of that response and because of the realization that the impact that it had on so many people who felt similarly. I just thought, Oh, this will help more people than it will hurt.”
