Jim Rickards believes that the US strategy of applying economic pressure on Iran is likely to fail. He suggests that Iran's current leadership, which is younger and more radical, is better positioned to withstand this pressure. Rickards also notes that US actions have inadvertently strengthened Iranian nationalism.
“My view is that Trump's on the, uh, losing side of that bet, that Iran has the, uh, better posture, the better timeline, uh, the, uh, all of Trump's, uh, views of what's going on in the Iranian economy are correct. All those things are happening. There is inflation, they are cut off from the payments. Uh, the oil revenue has dried up. Uh, but so what? I mean, they've been through it before.”
“But interestingly, this current leadership group were born after the revolution. They've been born since 1979. They were not revolutionaries, they were immersed in the revolution, they've internalized it, and they're so committed, more radical.”
