Flight tracking service FlightAware is suing Kalsa for allegedly using its data without permission to allow users to bet on flight cancellations. FlightAware claims Kalsa's betting pages use its trademark and that such markets could encourage unsafe tactics leading to disruptions.
“Kalsa has built flight cancellation betting pages verified by FlightAware's data despite demands to stop, according to a complaint filed in US District Court on Monday.”
“FlightAware took issue with the use of its registered trademark on Kalsa's betting pages as concerns mount that running such markets could encourage unsafe tactics to cause cancellations and create the potential for massive disruption of air travel, according to the suit.”
“FlightAware stated in the suit that it has sent cease and desist letters to Kalsa to no avail and when Kalsa to stop offering bets on cancelled flights before there is any harm to public safety, end quote.”
