Chris Hutchins and Brian M discuss the potential legislation aimed at capping credit card interest rates. Both speakers believed this was unlikely to pass, and early 2026 predictions that it would significantly impact points and miles have not materialized, reinforcing their belief in the continued viability of points and miles programs.
“So the beginning of the year, one of the things we talked about was just that there could be a major shift if this legislation to cap interest rates on credit cards came because that's a big portion of revenue for credit card companies.”
“You and I both thought it wasn't going to happen. The odds weren't incredibly high, you know, I think the prediction market's had it at 30 something percent, but it turns out it didn't happen. The prediction markets have it sub 10%. Points and miles are here to stay.”
“It's easy in my mind to see a piece of legislation that looks like it might change everything, but I've now seen that three or four times and it seems to never happen. So I don't know how you feel, but I'm starting to not worry when these things keep popping up.”
