An OpenAI executive, D. Ball, has voiced concerns that Chinese AI models could lead to a future where AI is government-provided rather than commercially sold, potentially diminishing the role of private companies and leading to a 'dystopian landscape' controlled by communist regimes.
“Dean Ball is a former Trump administration official who is in the administration for a very short time last year. And he recently started at Open AI in a position focused on policy strategy.”
“He said on Axios after Kimi K3 came out that he was worried that Chinese AI models were essentially going to take over and that there would be this sort of dystopian landscape where communism ran the AI world.”
“The idea is that if China basically gains control of the AI race and that open weight models are the ones that proliferate widely, essentially the companies lose a lot of control over that.”
