Doug Casey theorized that the US involvement in the Middle East, including its numerous bases, is primarily driven by Israeli interests rather than direct US national interests. He believes that without a US presence, Israel would dominate the region.
“So what's it doing there? What's it hope to accomplish? Well, it's all about the Israelis. Because, uh, the Israelis have seen Syria go away, uh, they've seen Iraq go away. The US is paying the Egyptians, uh, $4 billion plus per year to act as the US's BFF. Uh, so they like to get rid of Iran too.”
“But the US doesn't have any interest there. Zero interest. Zero interest there, actually.”
