The founder of Fishwife was inspired to create her premium tinned fish brand after experiencing free tapas, including high-quality sardines and tuna, served with drinks in Granada, Spain. This contrasted sharply with the commodity perception of tinned fish in the U.S. and sparked the idea to offer a more sophisticated and appealing product.

“So between that and seeing the way that Spaniards eat and you know, really just treasure the high quality of their food products, and then traveling to Portugal, which is like where everyone has their conservative experience, and it's certainly where I had mine in Lisbon, you know, seeing these beautiful shops with rows and rows of gorgeous tinfish, like it could not have been more different than my market basket in southern New Hampshire.”
“And I at the time, certainly, you know, at age twenty, wasn't like I'm going to do this for the rest of my life. But during the COVID nineteen pandemic, I started getting more candy fish. It's really really good for you.”
