Dr. Jordan Grummet (Doc G) provides statistics on medical malpractice lawsuits, stating that approximately two-thirds of cases are dismissed before trial, and 8 out of 10 cases that go to court find in favor of the physician. He notes that the likelihood of a patient winning a malpractice suit is less than 10%, and even then, over 40% of the award goes to the lawyer.
“data shows that about two-thirds of cases are thrown out before they even make it to court, are thrown out without a finding.”
“So if you are sued for medical malpractice, two-thirds of cases are thrown out, 67%.”
“8 out of 10 cases find for the physician and show that there was no malpractice. So you're likelihood of winning a malpractice suit as a patient is far less than 10%.”
