Financial planner Georgia Lee Hussey observes a growing hesitation among progressives and liberals regarding tax increases, even in famously progressive towns. She notes that this resistance is not solely about the amount but stems from a lack of trust in institutions to use tax money effectively for societal benefit.
“And this, there's this, it feels like there's a shift, you know, like it's not, it's not a new thing, but maybe we can. And I want to hear your thoughts on what you're observing with respect to, quote unquote, progressives and their feelings about paying taxes. What are you, what are you seeing?”
“And when it comes down to you writing this check, there's something another dialogue or monologue happening. And it's quiet, but very present.”
“It's not just about paying taxes, it's about the trust that we have in our government to be able to use that money effectively. And when that trust is broken, then you start to see people saying, well, maybe I'll just opt out.”
