In preparation for the D-Day invasion, all French resistance movements were consolidated into the French Forces of the Interior (FFI) in February 1944, comprising approximately 41,000 members. This unified force included Communists known for their brutality, the Armée Secrète focused on intelligence and sabotage, and the Organisation de Résistance de l'Armée composed of former military officers.
