According to QI Research, the U.S. economy lost approximately 600,000 full-time jobs over the past 12 months. This statistic is significant because, as Danielle DiMartino Booth noted, losing a full-time job constitutes a recession for the individual affected.
“Okay. Um, great, great clarification. And if I took good notes again of our previous conversation, um, I think you said the US economy lost about 600,000 full-time jobs in 2025. That's about the order of magnitude you're talking about.”
“No, that's in the last 12 months.”
“But still, that's that's a lot. And of course, you know, we can talk about, you know, we can talk academically about recessionary, you know, levels or not. But if you're one of those 600,000 people who lost your full-time job, it's a recession for you.”
