Anthropic has launched Opus 5, a new model that they claim rivals the capabilities of their Fable 5 model in various domains while being more affordable. This release follows the earlier introduction of Fable 5 and Sonnet 5, with Opus 5 expected to be a distillation of the more powerful Fable and Mythos models.

“So they sort of caught up, presumably because these are distillations of Fable and Mifos, right?”
“Typically what you can predict with Anthropic is very big, kind of best model is their most compute heavy, most impressive model, which is Mifos right now. And these things like Fable and Opus and Sonnet are kind of derived from it to some extent where they try to extract out the intelligence at a lower price.”
