Blockchain Capital: Crypto's 'Lemon Market' Necessitates Buy-and-Burn

Spencer and Aleks suggest that the current crypto market's 'lemon market' dynamic forces projects to adopt buy-and-burn strategies to prove their quality and alignment with token holders. This is seen as a temporary measure until greater clarity and trust emerge in the market, allowing for more efficient capital deployment.

I also think this is super interesting. I wonder to what degree does the need to buy back the token on day one, which again, inefficient, not what startups do, poor use of capital to do buybacks on day one. But part of that has to be downstream of the fact that tokens in crypto have been so dogshit that quality tokens need to put their money where their mouth is and show the market that they're serious And the best way to do that is buy and burn.
Feels like definitely like a sign of the times. And we'll look back on it as a rather like inefficient use of capital in a protocol treasury.
I think that Alex is right that we'll look back on this as like this brief moment in time where really what those teams are trying to do is acknowledge that there's a lot of ambiguity of whether or not some of the... folks around the network are aligned with token holders. And what they're trying to do is put that flag in the sand and say like, we are, we're aligned. This is what we're going to do.
