OpenAI CEO Sam Altman visited Washington to discuss the capabilities of OpenAI's latest model and release protocols with lawmakers and White House officials. The conversations have become more complex due to recent events like the Hugging Face hack and public calls for government intervention to slow AI development.
“Altman said that he and Ted Cruz had not discussed specific legislation, but that quote, we talked about our new model and what it's going to take for America to remain competitive with AI.”
“Altman also said that he didn't support mandatory safety testing, particularly because it could introduce an unnecessary burden on OpenAI's model developers, but added, for frontier models at new levels of capabilities, we think it's really important that the federal government has great testing capacity and capabilities.”
