The Taiwan Strait is identified as a potential future flashpoint due to global dependence on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) for advanced chips. China's actions, such as maritime patrols, raise concerns about potential disruption.
“I think in terms of maritime choke points, you know, there are a few that could become flash points. Indonesia has already mooted the possibility of putting a toll on the Strait of Malacca, which is this critical maritime choke point on sort of the route from pretty much anywhere in Europe or the Middle East to Asia.”
“What about the Taiwan issue? The fact that Taiwan Semiconductor currently still produces the majority of the world's most advanced chips. Why isn't the rest of the world spending billions upon billions of dollars to insulate themselves away from that flash point?”
“Could China absent some sort of an actual amphibious in uh invasion of Taiwan, could they just, you know, establish some sort of naval patrols in the Taiwan Strait where they're questioning ships collecting customs duties for instance uh from vessels?”
