As the world seeks to circumvent geographic chokepoints like the Strait of Hormuz, new dependencies are emerging in areas like Chinese-dominated solar panels, batteries, and pharmaceutical ingredients. This creates potential for new chokepoints that could be weaponized.
“One of them which is I mentioned is I do believe that in the energy space, we could find ourselves moving from one choke point, which is the Strait of Hormuz, to another, which is, you know, Chinese solar panels, batteries, electric vehicles.”
“The same, by the way, is true in the pharmaceutical and biotech space and active pharmaceutical ingredients, KSMs, which are key starting materials, sort of the the upstream components of drugs. China is completely dominant.”
