Edward Fishman suggests that instead of escalating military conflict, Iran is successfully monetizing its control over the Strait of Hormuz by charging service fees to vessels. This approach is seen as more politically viable for the US than initiating hostilities.
“I think basically what has happened is Iran has just been able to monetize this choke point.”
“The it's it's turned into it's turned into something where um there's a lot more political support, I think, for paying Iran, uh which is effectively what Trump is doing in this MOU, paying Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz as opposed to launching a massive costly military venture in Iran.”
