The Schooner Heritage was purpose-built as a passenger schooner and launched in 1983, constructed over three winters by captains Doug and Linda Lee with a small crew. Its hull is 95 feet long, and its main mast reaches approximately 80 feet tall, with the rigging extending to 102 feet above the water. The vessel is built with red oak framing and planking and a white pine deck.
“So the particular schooner I was on was the Heritage and of the nine ships in the fleet, this is one of three that was purpose-built as a passenger schooner.”
“So the other six were converted over from cargo ships, but this one was designed and built by the captains Doug and Linda Lee. They launched it in 1983 at the North End Shipyard, which is where you sail out of here in Rockland.”
