Toy industry analyst Kristen McLean suggests that the current popularity of squishy and fidget toys stems from a desire for hope, playfulness, and joy, as well as a need to manage anxiety. This trend shows no signs of slowing down and is expected to continue into the holiday season.
“Anything having to do with sensory, soothing, squishing, slime, things that you play with with your hands.”
“I think that it has to do with the fact that people, not just kids, adults too, are looking for things that make them feel hopeful, playful, joyful. Also things that calm them down, things that address their anxiety.”
“Right now, it doesn't show any signs of slowing down, so I'm very bullish on this, certainly going into the holiday season this year.”
