EJ Antoni stated that there needs to be an improvement in the quality of data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), noting unprecedented revisions that consistently move in the same direction. He suggested this indicates a statistical bias, not necessarily a political one, affecting numbers like non-farm payrolls.
“Oh, there there certainly needs to be an improvement in the quality of the data coming out of of BLS. There's absolutely no doubt about that.”
“And I think there's actually pretty broad bipartisan consensus around that point. And you know, you can look to the fact that the revisions that we have seen recently are truly unprecedented. not only unprecedented in terms of their size but in terms of the fact that they are consistently going in the same direction.”
“You know, we would expect statistically we would expect these things to be what kind of what we call a random walk where you have one month up, one month down and that pattern just kind of continues and then it averages out to zero.”
