The podcast hosts corrected a previous misinterpretation of the partnership between Marriott elite status and Japan Airlines' "fly on points" for elite status. It was clarified that while Marriott Platinum status grants 20,000 fly on points annually, and Titanium grants 30,000, these points contribute to, but do not solely fulfill, the requirements for Japan Airlines' Crystal or Sapphire status. A significant portion must still be earned directly from Japan Airlines group flights.
“What we said, what I said last week was was just wrong about certain things about how to get status, uh, from Marriott to Japan Airlines.”
“So the status points with Japan Airlines are called, uh, fly on points, and the chart showed that for example, to get crystal status, which is like the lowest level of elite status, you need, uh, 30,000 fly on points and 15,000 of those have to be from Japan Airlines group flights.”
“So, uh, because you have Marriott Platinum, you get 20,000, which counts towards those 15,000 required.”
“It it gets you more than half the way to Crystal status, but you're still 10,000 fly on points short.”
