Joel shares an anecdote about his daughters playing with a Barbie house they built from packaging, rather than a purchased Barbie playhouse. This observation leads the hosts to discuss how some commercial toys may not foster creativity as much as simpler, DIY alternatives. They ponder whether the expensive toys are truly valued by children.
“So me and the little dude were just kind of paling around in the house and but like the crazy thing is, we had like some extra packaging laying around the house, and so they kind of built their own Barbie house out of this packaging classic.”
“The interesting thing though, is that my oldest daughter already had she has like an actual Barbie playhouse that we got like secondhand from one of these, like one of these resale shops, and she just she hasn't played with it a ton, which is which is fun, which is interesting. But for some reason, they were enthralled with this like box, this Barbie house up their own making.”
“But it's funny though, like like how there are certain items that they look really cool, but oftentimes they don't necessarily lead to creativity, Like they don't lead to kids in particular being innovative and just creating something for themselves.”
