Miguel shares that his interest in MileagePlus Upgrade Awards stemmed from a desire to use fewer points when traveling with friends. Instead of booking an entire ticket for a friend with 80-100,000 points, he found it more efficient to use around 30,000 United miles for his friend, solving a problem of point redemption for group trips.
“well another reason why I got into this was because I was on a group trip with some friends and I don't really like using my points for friends trips”
“but I'd rather use you know 30000 united miles for my friend than book an entire ticket for them which would be you know 80 90 100000 points”
“so that's kind of another problem that it solved for me but one of the main problems that I think this solves is that we see not only united but other airlines that have moved into the direction of gatekeeping some of their awards”
