The US government has lifted its block on Anthropic's Methos 5 AI model, allowing it to be released to over 100 US institutions. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutenick stated that appropriate safeguards are in place following significant progress in talks with Anthropic.
“I have determined that appropriate safeguards are in place to permit certain trusted partners to access the Claude Methos 5 model.”
“The decision in a letter sent Friday afternoon to Anthropic is a major de-escalation in the confrontation between the Trump administration and one of the world's most valuable private companies.”
“Anthropic has committed to work with the US government on protocols and standards and releases for its models, Lutenick wrote.”
