Bobby Rebell highlighted how childhood experiences significantly influence adult financial behavior. She explained that growing up in scarcity can lead to overspending for a sense of abundance, while a lack of financial discussion in childhood can create communication difficulties in adult relationships.
“Well, I learned a lot about the nuances of people's relationships with money. So we often think of money in terms of facts and figures, but it's so much more than that. It's about our values, our beliefs, our emotions, our experiences.”
“For example, if someone grew up in scarcity, they might be more inclined to overspend as an adult as a way to feel that sense of abundance. Or if they grew up in a household where money was never discussed, they might have difficulty communicating about finances in their own relationships.”
