Winging It Travel Podcast · Wednesday, July 8, 2026
Host James Hammond detailed his upcoming travel plans, which include trips to Toronto, Tallinn, and Helsinki, with a potential six to eight-week trip in the fall. He is recovering from kidney stones, which have impacted his ability to travel and release episodes on his normal schedule.
“So first of all, the World Cup. Now, I know there are problems at the World Cup. I mean, you have USA at its possible worst moment of corruption right now with the current government and president, we all know that. And when you chuck in there and add in FIFA, who are just as awful and as corrupt as those guys, then combined, that is not a great combination for an event. And there is a lot of problems there as we saw with the Baligan drama with the red card and getting it rescinded or moved, should we say. I mean, it's absolute disgrace.”
“So talking on traveling, I've got a trip coming up in late July. This has been on the cards all year. I haven't traveled since my trip to Bhutan, Australia in December. And the reason being is I'm just trying to work a few things out at the minute. In terms of my business, with the podcast editing and trying to make some money on the side, trying to get that going. Concentrating on the podcast. I'm really trying to wrap up all the travels that I've ever done. So I can go into next year with a clean slate. Re-think some strategy in terms of content. So I needed like six, seven, eight months to really lay low, concentrate on that. And that is almost come to an end.”
“So that's my little spiel on the World Cup. I think it's given me a bit of hope that this scenario proves to people that you can be okay in each other's country. You'll have no problems. People will help you out. They'll show you their own country. Show you the best parts. And it's worthwhile investigating and then investing in flights and tours, whatever you want to do in a country around the world.”
