For those planning to drive in Italy, Katie Clark stresses the necessity of having an International Driving Permit (IDP) in addition to a local license, especially for non-European licenses. She notes that rental agencies and police may require this document, and failure to have it can lead to significant issues.
“what you do need is your local license plus your international drivers permit, so next time he goes, because if you get stopped by police or there's an accident, you do need to have that if you've got a license from outside of Europe, So it's very important.”
“I went into a bit more detail earlier in the week about this international drivers permit and people turning up to pick up their rental car and not being able to get it because they did not have the right documentation.”
