Sebastian Mallaby identified three key drivers of China's AI progress: strong government commitment to leadership by 2030, vast amounts of data from a digitized population, and a vibrant entrepreneurial scene. He believes the US's decentralized approach will struggle to compete.
“Well, I think that China is doing three things really well in AI. Number one is the government's commitment.”
“You know, with 1.4 billion people and a highly digitized society, they've got a lot of data that they can use to train these AI models.”
“And number three is the entrepreneurial spirit.”
“So, you know, I think that the US is going to have to find ways to be more strategic and coordinated if it wants to keep pace with China in the AI race.”
