Paris resident Lachlan Cook shares that the Left Bank remained largely quiet and untouched during the October 17th protests, though he encountered residual tear gas after taking the Metro near Cité. He notes that while some public infrastructure suffered damage, cleanup crews were quick to restore normalcy the following morning.
“I will say that that evening I went to a concert in the sixth at a friend's house, and on the way home, the Metro at Châtelet was closed, so I got off at Cité. And when I came up, there was a lot of residual tear gas in the air, but the action was over.”
“Last night the city put a curfew from 11 to 6 AM on both Les Halles Châtelet and on Place de la République, and that seems to have calmed things down.”
