Sagar Vazay discussed the release of Mistral Large 4 as an open-weights model trained on approximately 3,800 GPUs. He revealed that halfway through the training run, the team encountered and patched an error internally dubbed 'Patchstrial'.
“We'll talk about this in our technical report tomorrow, but indeed there were some surprises in this free training run. Halfway through it, we realized, okay, there's something wrong. We need to figure out how to fix it.”
“And then we found a solution. We found a way to patch it. We called it Patchstrial internally. And this it worked even better than we expected, and the result is the model you see today.”
