Gilbert shares a tactical exercise he and his wife used called the activity jar, where each partner writes down retirement activities on index cards over the course of a year. They placed 100 total ideas into a cookie jar to pull from once they officially retired.
“So we put a cookie jar in our kitchen, with a post-it note or index cards or whatever by it. And we said, okay. Every week. Each of us have to fill out one index card of something we want to do in retirement.”
“And what, I think, so elegant about it is both of you are doing it at the same time. So it's an equal input. And then once you hit retirement, you start pulling them out.”
