Andrew Bosworth explained that the era of monolithic AI models, where one model attempts to do everything, is over, citing Llama 3's launch as a turning point. Meta is now moving towards a 'model of models' strategy, where different specialized models are orchestrated for specific tasks, allowing for more efficient and tailored AI experiences.
“The era of the monolithic model kind of died around Llama 3 launch. Like the idea like there's one model and just, like, let's just test how smart this model is. And that was how good it's going to be at lots of things.”
“We're now in a world where, um, when you're using these harnesses, whether it's, um, you know, open code, cloud code, codex, like, using these harnesses, they're shopping underneath to lots of different models depending on the task.”
“So, um, we've we really moved past this world where there's just one model that rules them all.”
