Jonathan Wellum recommends a balanced investment approach, hedging against both economic growth and the risks posed by high debt levels and potential currency debasement. He suggests investing in companies that benefit from technological revolutions, commodities, and infrastructure, while remaining cautious about potential market downturns.
“My view is I'd have to say I don't know. And so I'm positioning for both. So I want to be in some businesses that can profit from the economic growth and capital boom and some of the commodity demands that are coming out of the technological revolution. At the same time, I want to hedge some of my bets and protect myself from the debt and the debasement trade, which I think it just has to hit at some point. Will it hit in 2027? I don't know.”
“So we're going to try to play both sides. But I think in 2027, yeah, you could have a blow up at any time. It's a very fragile global economy. And I think that they're trying to thread the needle. And I don't blame Trump and Besant for what they're trying to do.”
“But I think investors need to protect themselves and to be careful that it could unwind sooner than they can extricate themselves from the problem. I just think that the math doesn't work.”
