Brent Johnson argues that a strong dollar, rather than a weak one, is a more significant threat to the global financial system. He explains that the world operates on dollars loaned into existence, and when the dollar becomes too strong, it makes it harder for other nations to service their dollar-denominated debts, leading to global crises.
“And the reason the strong dollar rising versus foreign currencies is the bigger threat and the bigger worry, is because the whole world runs on dollars.”
“And so the dollar eventually, even though it can get weak in the short term, eventually comes back because eventually, that dollar demand takes hold.”
“And that's why in 2022, when we saw the DXY go to a 30-year high, that's why you saw much of the rest of the world start to go into crisis.”
