Dr. Mark Thornton anticipates that the conflict in the Persian Gulf will worsen existing upward trends in oil and energy prices. He also warns of significant disruptions to the fertilizer and chemical industries, which will negatively impact global food production for several crop cycles, leading to scarcity and higher costs for food and energy.
“I kind of expect that to continue given the conflict in the Persian Gulf area, that's exasperating, um, a, uh, a upturn in oil and energy prices that was already starting to form”
“And it's made that much worse. And of course, it's also disrupted the fertilizer and chemical industries greatly, which is going to diminish world food production over the next at least several crop cycles.”
“And so, you know, there's not going to be any let up. in fuel, energy, energy, and food production.”
