Dr. Mark Thornton observes a growing interest among the younger generation in Austrian economics, driven by their direct experience with economic challenges. He notes that young people are disillusioned by unaffordable housing, student debt, and healthcare costs, leading them to question the establishment and seek deeper explanations for economic problems.
“And the reason I think young people are either drawn to the Mises Institute and Austrian economics or they're just turned off entirely by politics and anything that's related to the establishment is the fact that they don't have a lot of wealth that's building up.”
“They have, you know, student debt and they have a government run health care system that they can't afford to pay for health insurance. And so a lot of the things, and they can't afford to buy a home.”
“And so that's what the younger generation is facing is these major categories like housing and healthcare have become unaffordable.”
