Jim Bianco, president and founder of Bianko Research, announced a significant shift in his investment strategy, moving from being 'outrageously bearish' on bonds since 2020 to now looking to 'get long the bond market'. He believes current bond yields near 5.25% have largely priced in inflation, deficit, and debt supply concerns.
“Now that you're near five and a quarter percent and the Fed is hiking, all of the bearish talk that we have in the bond market, and there is bearish talk. Talk about inflation, about the deficit, about the supply of debt. That's now largely being reflected in prices.”
“But we're getting close enough that I would and actually am starting to look towards getting long the bond market. And I've been short the market and been bad-mouthing bonds since 2020 and now at these levels, I'm actually kind of coming around to that there's some real value there.”
