Professor Steve Hanke discusses the dramatic increase in the average age of first-time homebuyers, now over 35, compared to his own experience of buying property at age 21. He argues this lack of housing affordability for younger generations leads to anxiety and dissatisfaction, impacting their education and career prospects.
“Now the average age is is it's up to the 30s. It's it's over. I think it's a little over 35.”
“That means that that's a huge chunk of the population that's that's anxious. They're dissatisfied. They're going to the university spending big money to get an education and then they can't afford to buy a house.”
“I mean, buying a house was just an non-issue for me. I mean, I bought a house right away.”
