Scott Muir detailed his 12-year career in the Air Force, which included extensive travel and multiple deployments. He flew KC-135s for air-to-air refueling, serving in places like the Middle East (UAE) and touring various locations including the Azores and Ascension Island.
“I spent 12 years in the Air Force. So I spent a bunch of time in East Coast, West Coast, and then some time over in Germany, a lot of time overseas. And then moved back here to Southern California and I started flying with UPS. So doing cargo flying, which is different but pretty easy. And then yeah, that kind of takes us through most of it. So.”
“Gosh, so since we were East Coast, we did a lot of Europe stuff. I was like, my deployments were in the Middle East and the UAE. So we were just outside Abu Dhabi there. Um, which is fun. You got to go out every now and then and see the city and stuff like that. So there was some cool stuff with that. Um, other places we went that were fun. Like I got to go to the Azores, which is like, I love the Azores. Really cool place. So when would I get to do that? We went out to a place called Ascension Island, which was like, crazy. Like down off Africa, which is really neat. Um, I've been to all sorts of little islands and stuff in the Pacific. I don't know, like just fun places, you know, like we were in, um, Nairobi, we were in Addis Ababa, like all sorts of fun places there.”
“So we did that. And then we went out to New Jersey. We lived in New Jersey for 5 years. And that was like a busy 5 years because that was thrust into the actual Air Force. So I was flying KC-135s, which did air-to-air refueling. Um, which was a really fun job. Like I loved it. It was really cool. We got to go some cool places and see fun things. But also with that, like came, I was gone a lot. Like a lot. I think in 5 years, I did, I think it was 7 deployments, maybe 8 deployments. Yeah, 5 years. Yeah, it was a lot. We were just, you know, every six months or so, something else and we're gone. And you're gone a lot in between. So it was definitely stressful on us. But, um, I don't know. I think we also grew a lot together in that. Like we learned a lot about each other and not without its difficulties and stuff. So.”
