There are emerging examples of data centers providing tangible benefits to their host communities, with some developers engaging in community benefit agreements. Anecdotal evidence from Virginia and Louisiana suggests data center revenue has lowered property taxes and supported local services, including one instance of one-time cash payments to teachers.
“Yeah, we don't have a lot of good sort of evaluation data of that. But, yeah, and there have been interesting stories coming out of places in Virginia, places in Louisiana, where, in income money from data centers is, you know, lowering property taxes for residents, is supporting schools. I think there was a, um, a county or district in Louisiana that offered one-time cash payments to teachers. Um, which is great, right? To to, um, you know, based on the money that they're bringing in from data centers.”
